It looks like checking the call key iMessageIt could come with the release of iOS 16.6, two weeks before the start of WWDC 2023, which the company said would allow those facing “unusual digital threats” to verify iMessage contact keys, as Apple announced last year. Protect their conversations from malicious actors.

As MacRumors first reported, Apple began rolling out the first beta version of iOS 16.6 last Friday, and among the features the release adds is iMessage contact key verification.

A new option in the Settings app appears to be working on Apple’s device, but this time it doesn’t turn on contact key verification to enable the feature.

MacRumors speculates that it might be because the company hasn’t fully implemented call key verification in iMessage.

Once there, if the feature is enabled for everyone in an iMessage conversation, iMessage Contact Key Verification will automatically send an alert when Apple detects that someone has added a rogue device to an account.

The company considers the feature to protect activists, government officials and journalists from government-sponsored hackers.

This is one of the features that Apple is expected to add in iOS 16 before the company turns its full attention to iOS 17.
