Dubai’s JLT Link electric bus service has launched in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, connecting residents across the neighbourhood for Dh3 per journey, as August also brings higher petrol prices and the return of the school year.
JLT Link electric bus routes and how to pay
The JLT Link electric bus service runs on two routes: Route 1 covers clusters A to N, and Route 2 covers clusters O to Z. Both connect to DMCC Metro Station and Sobha Realty Metro Station, as well as Uptown Dubai.
Passengers can pay through the JLT Link app, which also shows live bus timings and allows top-ups. No advance booking is required; scanning a QR code at the nearest stop is also accepted as payment.
The fleet is fully electric. The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), which oversees JLT, has described the service as part of its wider sustainability programme, which includes solar-powered infrastructure and community recycling facilities.
August 2026 fuel prices in force from 1 August
The UAE Fuel Price Committee set new pump prices for August, effective from 1 August 2026. Super 98 petrol costs Dh3.6 per litre, Special 95 costs Dh3.49, E-Plus 91 costs Dh3.41, and diesel is priced at Dh3.8 per litre.
Depending on tank size and fuel grade, drivers will pay between Dh10.2 and Dh14.8 more for a full tank than they did in July.
Louvre Abu Dhabi discount for UAE residents
Louvre Abu Dhabi is offering UAE residents a 30 per cent discount on the standard adult admission price of Dh70 from 1 August to 30 September 2026. Children under 18 continue to enter free. A senior discount applies separately for UAE nationals and residents aged 60 and above.
Schools return on 31 August and what comes next
The 2026–2027 academic year begins on 31 August 2026 for students at both public and private schools across the UAE, under the calendar published by the Ministry of Education.
Administrative and teaching staff begin specialised training a week earlier, on 24 August 2026, according to the Ministry of Education’s 2026–2027 academic calendar.
The Ministry released the calendar as part of a three-year plan covering 2026–2027, 2027–2028, and 2028–2029. Key breaks for the coming year include a mid-term break from 12 to 18 October, a winter break from 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, and a spring break from 5 to 11 April 2027. The academic year closes on 2 July 2027.
Other dates to note in August
The peak summer heat period known as Jamrat Al Qayth, which the Emirates Astronomical Society says began on 3 July, ends on 10 August.
Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH), listed on the UAE public holidays calendar as expected to fall on Tuesday 25 August, corresponding to 12 Rabi Al Awwal, would create a three-day break. The exact date depends on the official moon-sighting announcement.
With students returning to class on 31 August, school-run traffic will resume across Dubai and the wider UAE from that date.
