Riyadh Hosts 10th SPNS Conference Showcasing Advances in Technology and AI for Paediatric Neurology

The 10th Saudi Pediatric Neurology Society (SPNS) Conference in Riyadh has convened 600 leading specialists and experts from across the globe to discuss the latest developments in paediatric neurology. The gathering serves as a platform for exchanging insights, sharing research, and translating scientific findings into practical clinical advancements.

This prominent annual meeting supports the ambitions of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by promoting innovation, research excellence, and knowledge development in the health sector. The conference reinforces the Kingdom’s growing leadership in medical research, particularly in the evolving fields of paediatric neurology and technology-driven healthcare.

Prof. Fahad Bashiri, Professor and Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at the College of Medicine and King Saud University Medical City, King Saud University, and President of the Saudi Pediatric Neurology Society, said: “Saudi Pediatric Neurology Society (SPNS) achieved many goals in medical education for healthcare providers, community service and awareness, and support of research in pediatric neurology. The title of this year’s conference (A Decade of Excellence ) to celebrate 10 years of the Saudi Pediatric Neurology Congress”.

Chairman of the Congress, Dr. Mohammed Al-Omari, Assistant Professor, Pediatric Department, College of Medicine, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Pediatric Neurology Consultant, King Fahad University Hospital, KSA, said : “While exact numbers vary, neurological disorders are estimated to affect around 10–15% of children in the region. The most common conditions include epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular diseases, and genetic or metabolic conditions. With improved survival rates in premature infants and better diagnostic tests, the demand for pediatric neurology services continues to Rise, therefor the Saudi Pediatric Neurology Society runs awareness campaigns on common conditions like epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders, develops family education materials, and offers training for pediatricians and neurologists to improve early recognition and referrals”.

“Technology and AI are becoming central to pediatric neurology. AI-assisted tools are being used for EEG interpretation, neuroimaging analysis, and early detection of certain neurological disorders. Telemedicine has improved access to specialized care, especially in remote regions. In Saudi Arabia, these technologies are being integrated within national digital health platforms to enhance diagnosis, and follow-up”. Added Chairman of the Congress, Dr. Mohammed Al-Omari.

During the 10th Saudi Society for Pediatric Neurology Conference, experts specializing in pediatric neurology will focus on a number of the most important topics in this field, including: Saudi FDA services and role in drugs oversight, new Spinocerebellar Ataxias first described in Saudi Arabia, Normal and abnormal patterns in Neonatal EEG, generalized Epilepsy syndromes, metabolic Epilepsy: Focus on mechanisms and new treatable conditions, metabolic movement disorders: Diagnosis and management, stroke and stroke-like Episodes in Neurometabolic diseases: Mechanisms and management, new horizons in Spinal Muscular Atrophy treatments, recent changes in Microbiology of Pediatric CNS infections, diagnostic dilemmas, Neuroinflammatory vs infectious Mimics. And more.
