Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher. On the other hand, losses were recorded in the and segments, which took the indexes down.
At the close of trade in New York, it closed up 0.01%, hitting its highest record level in 52 weeks, while it strengthened its position by 0.03% and weakened by 0.22%.
Among the top performers today were Intel Group (NASDAQ: NASDAQ ), which rose 1.95% or 0.65 points to end at 34.02. On the other hand, Merck & Co. (NYSE: ) added 1.78% or 1.93 points to end at 110.39 while Procter & Gamble (NYSE: ) added 1.59% or 2.39 points to trade at 152.95 at the end of the session.
On the worst performance of the day, American Express Company (NYSE:) lost 3.89% or 6.89 points to trade at 170.22 at the close. Caterpillar Corporation (NYSE: ) declined 1.32% or 3.44 points to 257.65 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ) declined 0.89% or 3.10 points to 343.77.
On the other hand, the best performers on the S&P 500 index were recorded by Zoetis Group (NYSE: ), which rose 6.95% to trade at 183.53, followed by Danaher Corp (NYSE: ), which gained 4.69% to close at 255.83 levels. 562. closed at a price of 40.
Among the best performers today were Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE: ), which fell 13.25% to 32.90, Omnicom Group (NYSE: ), which lost 4.98% to 83.78, Zions Bancorp (NASDAQ: ), which was down 4.73% and 4.726% in today’s Ex.1.
On the other hand, the best performers on the Nasdaq index were recorded by Digital World Education (NASDAQ: ), which rose 50.30% to trade at 20.08, while Fresh Tracks Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) continued its rise at 39.69% and closed at 0.95 levels at 0.95. 39.63% higher to trade at 9.09.
Among the weak performers today, we note shares of Sigma Labs Inc (NASDAQ: ), which fell 41.01% to close the session at 0.23 per share. Nightscope Inc (NASDAQ: ), which lost 26.38% at 1.20 a share. REDHILL BIOPHARMA LTD (NASDAQ: ), which lost 25.95% to close the intra-day session at 1.37.
The number of falling stocks outnumbered rising stocks with 1484 compared to 1462 on the New York Stock Exchange, while 84 remained unchanged. In terms of Nasdaq stock market, 1907 stocks declined, 1561 stocks strengthened its position, while 181 stocks maintained their value.
Sigma Labs Inc. (NASDAQ: ) was down 41.01% or 0.16 points to trade at 0.23, hitting a record low.
It measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index, which traded 2.79% lower to close at 13.60.
Gold futures for August delivery fell 0.34%, or 6.75%, to settle at $1,964.15 an ounce. In other commodities trading, WTI crude oil futures for September delivery rose 1.68%, or 1.27 points, to settle at $76.92 a barrel. Brent crude futures for September, which rose 1.52%, or 1.21 points, to settle at $80.85.
The EUR/USD pair maintained its stability by 0.00% and traded at 1.11 levels, while the USD/JPY pair rose 1.17% to reach 141.71 levels.
Dollar index futures rose 0.17% to trade at 100.77.
