A new study has found that millions of people who take cholesterol-lowering drugs are less likely to die from the growing corona virus.

Newspaper quotes Defender The study, published in the journal PLOS Medicine, shows that statins, one of the world’s most popular drugs, reduce vascular inflammation, and its use is associated with a slight reduction in the risk of death in people with corona.

The study used Swedish data, where the Karolinska Institute tracked 963,876 Stockholm residents over the age of 45 between March and November 2020, to examine the relationship between drug and cocaine death risk.

“Overall, our findings support the use of statins for conditions such as heart disease and high blood lipid levels in line with current recommendations during Govt-19 infections,” said Victor Ahlkivist, co-editor of the Karolinska Institutes Department of Global Public Health. .

Researchers have warned that more research is needed to determine if there is a causal link between coronary heart disease and drug-related mortality rates.

Cardiologist Tim Chico, a cardiologist and non-cardiovascular consultant who was not involved in the study, said it was not yet clear why statins might help covit patients.

He said, “Corona can cause very serious lung infections, and it can also cause inflammation in the blood vessels.”

Although more studies are needed to confirm this, the researchers noted that statin-prescribed individuals are less likely to die from corona.

The corona virus has killed 4,870,405 people worldwide since the World Health Organization’s office in China announced the outbreak at the end of December 2019.
