Advanced control electronics platform accelerates progress towards practical quantum computing

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has unveiled a breakthrough in high-speed electronics for quantum computing with the launch of Manarat. This newly developed custom control electronics platform represents a vital step towards building the powerful quantum machines of the future – systems with the potential to transform industries ranging from healthcare to energy.

Quantum computers are widely regarded as one of the most revolutionary technologies of the coming decades, anticipated to solve problems that remain beyond the reach of today’s most advanced supercomputers. However, scaling these machines requires exacting control over the fragile quantum bits – or qubits – that lie at their core. With Manarat, TII has demonstrated the capability to control 10 qubits with remarkable precision, laying the groundwork for the development of large-scale quantum systems.

“At the core of this achievement is our ability to control quantum systems with extraordinary precision,” said Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII. “Manarat represents a critical step toward large-scale quantum technologies and reinforces Abu Dhabi’s leadership in the global quantum race.”

Quantum control electronics function as the “nervous system” of a quantum computer – transmitting the ultra-fast signals required to manipulate delicate quantum states. Manarat has been engineered by TII to synchronise multiple electronic boards with an accuracy surpassing 100 picoseconds (one trillionth of a second), a critical benchmark for conducting complex quantum operations.

In addition to its technical performance, Manarat also delivers significant economic benefits: it is at least five times more cost-effective than commercially available alternatives, enabling faster experimentation and improving access to cutting-edge quantum capabilities.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment in TII’s long-term strategy to build a full-stack quantum computing platform encompassing hardware, control electronics, software, and applications. It further highlights Abu Dhabi’s determination to develop sovereign expertise in transformative emerging technologies with global significance.
