The UAE Ministry of Education ran its Specialised Training Week from 24 to 28 August 2026, putting more than 24,000 school leaders, teachers, advisors and support staff through targeted UAE teacher training ahead of the new school year.
The five-day programme covered more than 80 workshops and hybrid sessions, with content spanning artificial intelligence in classrooms, inclusive education, data-driven assessment, school safety, gifted student development and leadership.
What the UAE teacher training week covered
Sessions were delivered both in person and remotely, allowing educators across the country to take part without disrupting preparations for the start of term.
The ministry said the programmes were mapped to practical needs identified across the sector, with an emphasis on peer-to-peer learning and hands-on experience. Professional development, the ministry said, is intended to become part of everyday classroom practice rather than remaining confined to workshop settings.
A dedicated pathway targeted 1,700 school leaders, including 500 principals and 1,200 vice principals. Among the programmes offered to that group was the Leadership Competencies Lab, which focused on data-driven decision-making, applying AI in school settings, and reinforcing school culture around national identity and Emirati values.
Education Minister Sarah Al Amiri said the week was designed as more than an annual update. ‘The Specialised Training Week serves as a strategic national platform to integrate artificial intelligence, foster institutional innovation and empower our educators to lead sustainable, world-class academic environments.’
Three additional programmes running alongside the week
The training week was not the ministry’s only capacity-building effort ahead of the new year. According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the ministry also rolled out three further initiatives: the Comprehensive Capacity-Building Programme for Educational Leaders, the Professional Fellowship Programme, and the Certified Internal Trainers Programme.
The ministry said the combined effort represents an investment in human capital aimed at building a resilient, future-ready education system.
Key dates for the 2026-2027 school year
Students returned to classrooms on 31 August 2026, the first day of the 2026-2027 academic year. The Ministry of Education’s published academic calendar for 2026-2027 sets the mid-term break from 12 October to 18 October 2026, with schools resuming on 19 October.
Winter break runs from 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, with schools back on 4 January 2027. Spring break falls from 5 April to 11 April 2027, schools resuming 12 April 2027. The academic year ends on 2 July 2027.
