“Al-Jind” Music Composer: This series was a quantum leap in my career

Date:

With a blend that combines contemporary music and Syrian tradition, the songs in the “Al-Jind… The Orontes Wolf” series, especially “Al-Adaba” used at the beginning of the work, have gained great popularity on social media. sites.

Musician Ari Jean Sarhan worked on the joint, providing different melodies, which he divided into clips and themes, revealed in his interview with “Emirates Today” from behind the scenes of the series directed by Samar Al-Barqawi. and star Tim Haasan, and the challenges that came with him during “Ulna,” which he described as a qualitative shift at the level of mass transmission.

Ari Jean Sarhan said of the opening song of the series, which was a traditional Syrian lament: “I met the director Samar al-Barqawi, and he had a tendency to put classical music to give the series an epic color and grandeur through melody. It was suitable for the story, but when I started reading the text of the work, ,,,-,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sarhan added: “I started my work by looking for unique voices and researching the history of Arabic music, and many names were proposed to me, and I found Mawwal, which was placed at the beginning of the series. Nawf al-Badawi, incidentally, had at that time set the main theme for the work bearing the name Assi, which I then began. By finding a way to connect old money to the theme.

He explained that this amalgamation of music, recorded at the Diab Mikri Studio in Turkey, brought together the tradition of carrying many ancient instruments and classical instruments, including the mazuz and bouzogi.

Sarhan confirmed his choice of Beed al-Ataba presented at the beginning of the series: “O Playa, you and I are companions of the path.” He felt that the story of the series had this beautiful meaning, and searched for it. A voice to provide until Maha al-Hamwi, who is pursuing a doctorate in folk music in Siberia, wishes to. He explained the story of the series to him from beginning to end. Sarhan began by reading the text of “The Sand” and thereby tried to form a coherent picture of the nature of the instruments used in music, the most important characteristic of this music being that there were many. Time to work, the director allowed him to see the scenes of the shooting, and this contributes to the inspiration from the music appropriate to the text through photography, lighting, sound and the story of the events. Tell me. It was initially proposed to feature a larger theme and anti-evil characters under the name “Assy”, but in reality it relied on writing music within clips, and featured specially composed scenes. It had special music for him from beginning to end, including, for example, the “Battle of the River” scene. He said that he handled the music in some scenes like a short film.

Sarhan admitted that there were many challenges with the work, especially since the sequence was handled with great expertise in photography, colors, etc., describing this type of work as exhausting, but actually executed with a unique cinematic texture. In this context musically manipulated.

He believed that the idea of showing the series on the “Shahid” stage allows the author to handle the work and the idea with a lot of innovation, especially as many generations watch the work.

Sarhan studied at the Higher Institute of Music, this classical background had a significant influence on his works and compositions, as he would play international compositions in oriental bouzouki, and this orientation and educational background enabled him to present this music to audiences. I enjoyed the series.

He pointed out that the story of “The Zend” dates back to the beginning of the last century, and that the series was filmed in 2023, and that this was the deliberate use of modern instruments and contemporary language in the music along with the traditional, so what classical instruments were offered were grafted with oriental instruments to present an Arab character. He asserted that the Syrian story and its connection with the Arabian context made the presence of the Eastern context clear and dominant, and therefore it was strongly attended to in music by the Bayat, Hijaz and other maqams.

Sarhan noted that there are many songs in the series, especially in the Qajar tent clips, and he worked with sound designer Anas Hajjar to select the songs that could be presented in those scenes and the actual music for those songs. Up until 1900, the atmosphere was sometimes forced to collect songs to reflect the spirit of the era.

Lucky generation

Sarhan, who has been working with soundtracks since his student days, pointed out that the “Al-Jind” series is a soundtrack, a soundtrack for the audience to listen to. Properly, should be integrated with the elements of work.

He said that the series started its preparation and working on its details two years ago, it got enough attention and from here its public success in the Ramadan season, and the music series got its full rights.

He noted that the openness and presence of the platforms made the audience pay more attention to the soundtracks presented during the series, pointing out that this generation is more fortunate than the previous generation, because social media platforms now protect the rapid spread of business. as music.

Ari Jean Sarhan:

• “There are scenes in the works that have created their own music, including a river battle scene”.

• “This series has many songs, especially clips of Qajar tents.”

“Our Lord”

Ari Jean Sarhan, who has provided soundtracks for several serials and films, revealed that he is currently working on an album called “Mawalna”, an independent musical offering Syrian song into new forms, indicating that he is unlikely to walk away. From offering songs that embody anxieties.

Regarding his only acting experience, he says that he does not intend to repeat it now, and if he does, it will not be in the same form as before, he seeks to create a certain atmosphere through music. It is a science and requires study and a lot of effort.
