UAE Accident-Free Day campaign offers four black points off for safe driving

Drivers across the UAE can have four black points removed from their licences by registering for the Accident-Free Day black points scheme and driving without violations on 31 August, the first day of the 2026-27 school year. The Ministry of Interior is running the campaign through the Federal Traffic Council and in coordination with police forces nationwide.

Registration opened on 17 August. Motorists can sign up by scanning the QR code in the campaign’s Instagram post, signing in via UAE Pass and completing a safety pledge. A participation certificate is then sent to the email address linked to the driver’s UAE Pass account.

Six commitments drivers must keep on 31 August

To qualify for the four-point reduction, participants must uphold six specific commitments throughout the day, according to the pledge conditions. These are: maintaining a safe following distance; yielding to pedestrians at crossings; wearing a seatbelt at all times; adhering to speed limits; not using a handheld mobile phone while driving; and giving way to emergency vehicles, police, public service vehicles and official convoys.

Committing any of a list of ten disqualifying violations will forfeit the deduction, Gulf News reported. Those violations include driving against traffic, driving an unlicensed or unregistered vehicle, driving on an expired licence, sudden swerving, dangerous reversing and using a handheld mobile phone. The campaign is also referred to as Day Without Accidents in some official and media references.

The stakes are practical. Black points accumulate against a driving licence for traffic offences under UAE traffic law, which is governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 on Traffic Regulation and related ministerial resolutions. Reaching 24 points can result in licence suspension, and a further violation beyond that threshold may lead to court referral and licence confiscation.

Details on how to complete the pledge are published by Emirates 24|7. More than 300,000 drivers registered for the campaign in 2025.

Dubai Police steps up school-zone patrols and training

Dubai Police confirmed in its Accident-Free Day operational plan that the campaign has previously achieved zero fatalities and a reduction in accident rates on the first day of school in Dubai. The plan includes educational videos, awareness messages across the Dubai Police website and social media, campaign information on ATMs, and outreach in government offices, private institutions and commercial centres.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, visited Al Ittihad Private School Jumeirah as part of preparations and confirmed that intensified patrols would maintain smooth traffic movement in school zones. Awareness programmes for school bus drivers, covering safe student-transport procedures, also form part of the plan.

Separately, Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic ran traffic safety training for security guards at GEMS Education schools ahead of the new term. The sessions covered managing traffic flow during peak drop-off and pick-up times, ensuring safety when students board and disembark from school buses, directing pedestrians and responding to emergencies, according to Dubai Police.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and head of this year’s initiative, said a safe traffic environment requires cooperation between drivers, pedestrians and all road users. The campaign’s organisers want 31 August to be the start of a lasting habit, not a one-day exercise.

Participants who register, sign the pledge and meet all conditions by the end of 31 August will receive the four-point deduction on their records.
