iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders in the UAE opened at 4pm on 12 September 2026, with devices due in stores from 18 September across more than 65 countries and regions. For some UAE residents the purchase decision was made weeks ago. For others, Apple’s first foldable phone is complicating the calculation.
What the iPhone 18 Pro offers
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are powered by the A20 Pro chip and carry a 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture, with four manually selectable settings: f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0. Professional video includes ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, 4K 120fps Dolby Vision, and simultaneous front-and-rear Dual Capture.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Dh5,099 in the UAE and comes in burgundy, glacier, silver and black, with display sizes of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. UAE Apple store pickup locations include The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Yas Mall and Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi.
Indian expat Abdul Rafeeque, who currently uses an iPhone 17 Pro, said his decision was already finalised before pre-orders opened. ‘I’m going for the iPhone 18 Pro in burgundy on day one,’ he said. ‘The new iPhone is a clear step ahead of the previous one. I’m excited to see what the A20 Pro and the variable aperture camera can do.’
Rafeeque said preparation mattered as much as intent. ‘Yes, 4pm today, Apple Account signed in, card checked, trade-in estimate already done,’ he said. ‘I’ve learned the hard way that the pre-order isn’t won at 4pm. You need to plan everything early.’
He also pointed to iOS 27’s updated parental controls as a factor. iOS 27 introduces a redesigned Screen Time setup for child accounts, an Ask to Browse feature requiring parental approval before a child accesses a new website in Safari, and time allowances across entertainment, games and social media categories. Apple previewed the child safety features in June 2026 before making them available with the iOS 27 update. ‘The new parental control upgrades in iOS 27 are a big one for me as a father,’ Rafeeque said.
The iPhone Duo pre-order and the Face ID question
The device dividing opinion among UAE buyers is the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable. Its pre-order window in the UAE opens on 16 October 2026, with availability from 23 October 2026, priced from Dh8,499 in star white and night sky.
When unfolded, the Duo features a 7.6-inch inner OLED display. Closed, its 5.4-inch outer display delivers 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple describes it as the thinnest iPhone ever. The rear camera is a 48MP Dual Fusion system, and storage options run to 2TB.
The authentication method on the Duo, however, is Touch ID built into the side button rather than Face ID, whether the device is open or closed. According to the iPhone Duo specifications page, the handset is rated IP68 to a maximum depth of six metres for up to 30 minutes.
Rafeeque said the absence of Face ID gave him pause. ‘The Duo is the one I’ve been waiting years for: Apple’s first foldable,’ he said. ‘But this year’s Duo doesn’t have Face ID support, and that’s why I’m a little confused about whether to buy it.’
UAE resident Eisa Ahmed is holding back from the iPhone 18 Pro for the same reason. ‘I’ve been interested in a foldable iPhone for a long time, so I would rather wait and see what Apple does with it before spending money on the 18 Pro,’ he said. On Face ID specifically: ‘Face ID is something I use every day, so not having it is a big compromise for me.’
UAE resident Hamda Al Khlyeli said she would compare the new phone against her current device before deciding. ‘If the camera and battery are much better, I think it could be worth upgrading,’ she said. Her priority is photography: ‘I use my phone a lot to take photos and videos, especially when I’m traveling or spending time with friends and family.’
The Duo’s pre-order window opens on 16 October, giving undecided buyers roughly four weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro goes on sale to weigh both options side by side.
