Dubai Week

You’ll want to try these new Asian restaurants

There’s no shortage of Asian restaurants in Dubai, and now we have three more.

Katsuya by Starck

Katsuya Jumeirah Dubai

One of our favourite Japanese restaurants said ‘sayonara’ to Dubai Mall some time back, but now it’s back at a swanky new location.

The high-end LA sushi chain that’s designed by Philippe Starck opens at the new Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel this week and we can expect sleek designs and innovative riffs on classic sushi, sashimi, robata grills and more.

Another outlet comes to Riverland in Dubai Parks and Resorts later this year, for a refined take on post-rollercoaster eats.

Official opening Wednesday, 10th May. Opening times tbc. www.jumeirah.com

Maiden Shanghai

Maiden Shanghai Viceroy

Contemporary Cantonese restaurant with a generous side order of stunning opened at the new Viceroy Palm Jumeirah Dubai on Thursday (4th May).

Chef Luo Bing comes from London restaurant Hutong to bring fresh takes on Cantonese, Sichuan, Shanghai and Beijing cuisines.

From the menu, we’re impressed by the sounds of Bing’s Peking Duck, Kung Pao Lobster and Boom Boom Chicken, while the three-storey space has stunning views over the city and interiors inspired by Chinese history.

Lunch 12.30pm-3.30pm, dinner 7pm-12am Sat-Weds and 7pm-1am Thurs and Fri. 04 247 5222 / reservations@maidenshanghai.com

Mr Miyagi’s

Mr Miyagi's Media One

Media City’s Crab Tavern might soon be no more, but what’s replacing it will send chopsticks flying with excitement.

Asian street food flavours from the karate master meet kitsch mixed beverages from Miyagi’s long-term Thai rival, Cobra Kai. We have absolutely no idea where the back story goes, but with live cabaret, drinks in beach buckets and neon lights, it all sounds tacky but terrific.

Before it goes, the Crab Tavern is closing down with a pretty epic send off. For the month of May, there’s up to 50 per cent off bottles of grape and sparkling, and buy-one-get-one-free on selected mixed drinks and bottled hops.

Level 9, Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City. 04 420 7489. Crab Tavern is open 12pm-3am every day.

Fancy a takeaway taste of Asia?

Migo, Dubai Media City

Migo Sushi Media City

Reasonably priced sushi restaurant opens in Media City, where it will fuel office workers with its rice-wrapped staple, dim sum, noodles and vivid bubble tea.

Sushi starts from AED 18 for two pieces.

10am-10pm daily. Zee Tower, Dubai Media City. 04 453 1918.
