You can’t beat a good steak. If your craving are carnivorous, here are our recommendations of what we think are the finest steakhouses in Dubai.
The City Grill, The Atrium
Are you a steak-lover up for a challenge? Head to The City Grill for the Tomahawk Steak Challenge – 1.25 kg of American prime cut beef, accompanied by a side of sweet potato fries and an array of sauces.
Friendly staff escort us to our table and give us warm loaves of bread to snack on. We don’t think it was good idea to eat before embarking on the challenge, but they smelt too good to resist!
Sizzling, rich and juicy, the steak arrived and tender and flavourful, it doesn’t disappoint. We manage to pass the challenge, while enjoying every mouthful. If you’re not feeling so competitive, two could share the meat feast quite easily.
Daily 5pm-1am (brunch 12.30pm-4.30pm Fridays). AED 410. The Atrium, Al Habtoor City. Dubai Week dined as a guest of the venue. 04 437 0088.
JW’s Steakhouse, Deira
Walking into JW’s Steakhouse at the JW Marriott Dubai feels reminiscent of an old-school gentlemen’s clubhouse, with the overstuffed dark-green armchairs and the black-and-white pictures adorning the walls.
As reflected by the decor, this Deira eatery is one of Dubai’s oldest. Since the staff have been around for years, they really know what they are talking about, and give great recommendations cooked up by Chef Iqbal, who has been around since the restaurant’s start, and his team. And the steaks? Well, just as advertised on the website, they ‘cut like butter.’ Until 30th September, try an all-new ‘steaks around the world’ menu, with meat from Japan, Ireland, New Zealand and more starting from AED 150. Head there Saturdays to Tuesdays, 5pm-11.30pm.
Open daily 5pm-12am. JW Marriott Dubai, Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, Deira. 04 262 4444. Dubai Week dined as a guest of the venue.
Prime 68, Business Bay
Steak is the main delight, with a toothsome selection of Australian Wagyu, American Wagyu 8+, Jacob’s Creek Black Angus and Japanese A5 Waygu Striploin. The latter will set you back AED 1,300. However you can arrive between 6pm-7pm to take advantage of the early bird offer, where diners can enjoy a three-course set menu for AED 200.
Open daily 6pm-midnight (brunch 1pm-4pm Fridays). JW Marriott Marquis, Sheikh Zayed Road, Business Bay. 04 414 0000.
Nusr-Et Steak House, Jumeirah
Like eating your steak with a show? Head to Nusr-Et, where you’re guaranteed entertainment. You might even get a chance to see the owner ‘Salt Bae’ whose unique method of preparing meat made him an internet sensation.
We recommend the Nusret ‘spaghetti steak’ and the Lokum Steak. Be warned, dishes come with hefty price tags of about the AED 350 mark, however portions are quite large.
Open daily 12pm-12am. Nusr-Et Dubai. Four Seasons Hotel, Jumeirah Road. 04 407 4100.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House & Lounge, Dubai Marina
Nicknamed The Big Easy, the hometown of this steakhouse in Dubai Marina certainly echoes its laid-back atmosphere.
Enjoy a delicious sizzling steak served on a 500-degree plate, at the restaurant which serves only the finest corn-fed USDA prime beef. Equally good are the accompanying sides of buttery garlic mash, creamed spinach and sautéed mushrooms.
We also love the restaurant’s Meat Lover’s Brunch, where although unlimited servings of the finest steak were show-stopping, the spicy shrimps and the Ahi Tuna were a close runners-up.
The Address, Dubai Marina. Meat Lovers’ Brunch Fridays, 12.30pm-4pm and 7pm-10.30pm. Packages AED 325 (soft drinks), AED 495 (beverages and blended drinks) to AED 595 (including bubbles). 04 454 9538. Dubai Week dined as a guest of the venue.
Seafire at Atlantis The Palm
If you’re a meat lover with money to spare, head to Seafire. Here they’re serving one of the city’s most decadent steak dishes, the Seafire Rossini. Atlantis tenderloin comes with brioche toast, truffle cream, fois gras and Maderia sauce. The whole lot will cost you AED 375, so be sure to savour every bite!
Open daily 5pm-11pm. Atlantis, the Palm Jumeirah. 04 426 2626.
