Mischief managed comes to Dubai as the emirate’s opera house presents Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in concert.
Everyone’s favourite spectacle-wearing literary wizard turned Hollywood star is getting the theatrical treatment, as the first of JK Rowling’s massive popular series is set to an orchestral score over three nights later this year.
From 7th-9th December, Squibs and Muggles alike can watch the film on a 40-foot high-definition screen while hearing the Czech National Symphony Orchestra perform John Williams’ captivating music live.
Potterites flocked to a performance organised by Proactiv in Abu Dhabi’s du Forum last month, which was seen by 6,000 people over three days. There was so much demand that the Spanish production company decided to hop on their broomsticks and fly up to Dubai.
ProActiv managing partner, Nicolas Renna, said the success of the Abu Dhabi shows highlighted the popularity of Harry Potter in the region: “We heard our fans, and we are thrilled to announce that we are taking the hit-show to Dubai Opera this December. Having Harry Potter at the state-of-the-art Dubai Opera House will be an unforgettable experience for all Harry Potter, John Williams and classical music fans.”
The Harry Potter concert series launched in 2016 and will continue through to 2018, bringing hundreds of performances to more than 35 countries. We like to think the UAE shows have a little sprinkling of extra wizardry, however, as 2017 is the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone coming into all our lives.
Now the magic comes to Dubai Opera, which has already tested out the popularity of the screen/soundtrack format with live orchestral performances accompanying both Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park. Just watch out for He Who Cannot be Named!
