Dubai Week

10 ways to see Dubai in a brand new way this week

March is a bit of an arty party for Dubai, with galleries galore and pop-up exhibitions making it so much easier to appreciate art. Let us paint the plans of your week ahead…

Sunday, 11th March

The Girl with the Pearl Earring by DalalMaster strokes

Until 19th March, a fascinating new type of exhibition is being held at Gallery 76. “Old Masters in a New Light” sees the work of 13 of history’s greatest brushsmiths reworked by a team of contemporary artists. Discover pieces from the likes of Rembrandt or Caravaggio, whilst the paint’s still wet.

Free entry. 9am-5pm until 19th March. Gallery 76, Dubai International Art Centre (DIAC), Jumeirah. 04 344 4398.

Free Try-al

It’s the penultimate weekend of The Six Nations rugby championships and after dramatic scenes on Saturday, Ireland have already won the trophy. Plenty of pride to play for though, as Wales take on Italy, and if you take your rugby buddy along to Wavebreaker, one of you drinks for free during the match, with 2-for-1 on beverages.

Free entry. From 7pm. Wavebreaker, Hilton Dubai The Walk. 04 318 2319

Monday, 12th March

Zero Gravity

Zero Gravity gratis

Tuesday is Ladies’ Day at Zero Gravity. Females can use the pool and the beach for absolutely free, contributing evidence to the age-old adage of ‘the best things in life being free.’ Soak up the sun, relax and allow the soulful notes of saxophonist Matt West to become your vibe.

Free. 9am-6pm. Zero Gravity, Near Skydive Dubai. 04 399 0009

Tomahawk steak

Tomahawk Tuesday

The tomahawk is a cut of meat named after a weapon. And appropriately so in our opinion. Just look at it, it’s a monster, capable of felling even the most-seasoned (pun absolutely intended) meat-eaters. Award-winning J&G Steakhouse is serving these beasts up as part of a deliciously civilised sharing package.

AED 850 (includes bottle of red vintage, two appetizers, two sides and a dessert to share). 6.30pm-12am. J&G Steakhouse, The St. Regis Dubai, Al Habtoor City. 04 435 5555.

Boogie Babies

Blame it on the boogie

If your small human enjoys a bit of a dance-floor carve up, why not take them along to Boogie Babies, a dance and kinesiology event at Cheeky Monkeys. It’s a great way for children as young as four months to develop motor and social skills.

AED 75 for 30 minutes (Toddler Class – 10am, Babies and New Walkers Class – 10.30am). Cheeky Monkeys – Play Learn Celebrate, Al Barsha Mall, Union CO-OP, Ground Floor. 04 385 0875.

Wednesday, 14th March

Team Angel Wolf

Have a blast on the beach

Champions of equality, Team Angel Wolf, have partnered with Fairmont The Palm to create an inclusive beach activity program for children of ALL abilities. Beach Blast takes place every Wednesday, and with thanks to some awesome floating wheelchairs, there really is no limit to the fun for all involved.

Free. 4.30pm-5.30pm. Fairmont, The Palm. If you’d like to find out more about Team Angel Wolf, like how to get involved with their events, checkout their Facebook page:

Get yo burrito for free-yo

Like many, we hold a special place in our hearts for Taqado. Imagine our delight when its newest outlet popped-up next to our offices in Studio City (on the grassy area, in the boutique studios). They have 500 righteous ‘ritos to give away, and our features writer reckons he can polish off at least a quarter of that, so make sure you get down there fast.

Free. 11am-untill stocks last (if you miss out, the great news is you can still buy, order and receive delivery in that area for the first time, through from NOW).

Spring season

Trampolines have taken over part of Fabyland’s floor space in Dubai Festival City. The springy area is spread across 320 square metres with 30 interconnected trampolines. Bouncing on a trampoline of legitimately one of the most fun ways to exercise. And, although an incredibly messy way to eat your breakfast cereal.

AED 45 for 30 minutes (or AED 70 for one hour). 10AM-12PM. Fabyland, Dubai Festival City. 04 288 1490.

Thursday, 15th March

Pat on the back

No matter how spurious, Celebrate your Irish roots at Fibber McGees this weekend. There are special deals on certain traditional beverages from the Emerald Isle and a rich line-up of Gaelic entertainment, including the notorious Paddyman on Thursday night.

Free entry. 11am-2.30pm. Fibber McGees, Sheikh Zayed Road. 04 332 2400.
