Dubai Rugby Sevens fancy dress emergency? Our guide has got you covered

Rugby Sevens is back in Dubai this weekend which means – well, rugby obviously, but it also means FANCY DRESS. Check out some the best stores to visit for last minute wardrobe inspiration.

Fancy dress fun at the Sevens

Jumeirah shopping mall The Beach Centre has not one but three party stores. Confused? Two are named Mystique – one is on the ground floor and is dedicated to men’s costumes, while the other is on the first floor and is for women.

Awesome costumes, at a price – cosplayers, Superman will set you back almost AED 4,000 – but there’s the quick and lazy option of ordering online with cash on delivery.

Accessories are in-store only – everything from crowns and tiaras to fake blood, plus new glow and UV products.

Dubailand dwellers, there’s also another branch of Mystique in Al Barsha.

What’s on offer: This is where ladies can find themselves wigs, costumes, props – but we found that it’s quite limited in terms of what you’re looking for when it comes to props and accessories. But order this Irish Morphsuit and you can skip accessories AND your pre-party blowout on Paddy’s Day!

What’s on offer: Inspired (we think) by the cartoon character who loves his local costume shop, we found that they have some really cool outfits and props that the other stores don’t.

Would we wear a comic-inspired Opposuit (pictured) to work after Comic Con? We think we might.

Parents, there’s even a special section dedicated to book characters. Never fear World Book Day again!

Ben’s is slightly pricier than the rest of the party shops we checked out…but they do costume altering, rentals and delivery too and if your order is more than AED 500, they’ll deliver it for free.

Closed for the National Day weekend

On a tight budget?

Dragon Mart 2Japanese chain Daiso sells masks and wigs galore from its 10 branches across Dubai and most of them won’t cost you more than AED 7.

Dragon Mart is a treasure trove of cut-price decorations, if you don’t mind a children’s birthday party-style treasure hunt. In the name of handing out the best goodie bags, we’ve tracked down dancing sunflowers, USB sticks shaped like trainers and tiny white bird cages. Remember to bargain. Shiny new Dragon Mart 2 also has its own easier to spot Fashion Party Store.
