Dubai’s financial district gets a massive patriotic artwork

Mural DIFC National Day

Giant images of UAE leaders past and present decorate the entrance to Dubai’s Financial District.

To mark the UAE’s 46th National Day celebrations and the ‘Year of Zayed’, a massive artwork of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has been unveiled.

Although it looks like a huge mural, the 50 metre by 20 metre images were actually created using scanography, a technique where digitised images captured with scanners create printable art.

It’s another patriotic undertaking by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office and comes just days after a giant painting of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum was painted on Hatta Dam.

Young Emirati artist Maitha Demithan is behind the tribute. She said: “The idea was to bring together images of two great leaders that changed the history of the UAE, and place them facing each other to symbolise the commitment of the new leadership to follow in the footsteps of the Founding Fathers.”
