Anything that makes the drive to work easier wins a thumbs up from us. The new tunnel on both sides of Sheikh Rashid Street could even be a double thumbs moment.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the tunnel will open on Thursday, 3rd May. With four lanes in each direction between Garhoud and Port Rashid, it’s expected to greatly improve traffic flow on Sheikh Rashid Street.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, said: “The Project is part of RTA’s master plan for the improvement of roads, bridges, crossings and underpasses to accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and ease the traffic movement in all parts of Dubai.”
The tunnel is part of a project to improve the intersection of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Streets. Two major bridges have also been opened in the area, to ease traffic heading to Al Karama and the World Trade Centre junction in the direction of Sheikh Zayed Road.
