Car owners, from August registering your vehicle in Dubai has gone on-line only.
Starting 1st August, a lifetime e-Registration will be issued to motorists, means no more registration cards. Instead, we’ll receive an email and if you have the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) app, an update will appear there too.
We called the RTA to check on how to process is going to work and advised that for now, all fees for re-registering your car will stay the same and you still need have an annual test done at an RTA-approved testing centre. So, that’s AED 380 for re-registration and AED 170 for the test. After that (assuming the vehicle passes), they will upload all the relevant documents and email a registration certificate to the owner.
Eight licensing services have now moved online and are no longer available at RTA Service Centres. They are: renewal of registration of an individually owned vehicle that needs testing, printing a detailed list of registered vehicles, return from tour certificate, first owner registration certificate, vehicle ownership certificate, re-insurance certificate, replacement of lost/damaged ownership certificate, and clearance certificate (to prove clearance of fine and/or finance).
It’s the third phase of the RTA’s Vehicle e-Registration process, which began in January 2018 for government vehicles, car rental companies, and taxis. Phase II kicked off last May and covered private company vehicles.
Sultan Al Marzouqi, Director of Vehicles Licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency, says: “The service aims to save the time and effort of customers through enabling them to issue e-Registration using smart means to make them happier. The service is accessible through RTA Dubai App, Dubai Drive App and RTA Website.”
He adds: “Customers can keep the permanent registration and make a printout of the Vehicle Driving Permit sent via e-mail, and keep them in case vehicles leave the UAE. The Ministry of Interior has officially communicated with local and foreign entities in this regard. Details of the Vehicle Driving Permit can be verified through the link stated in the Permit, which can be printed free of charge from RTA portal.”
