Free Wi-Fi Smart Palm sprouts in Dubai’s Financial Centre

Smart Palm, DIFC, free Wi-Fi

Betrayed by your phone’s battery? Dumped by your data? Smart Palms are here to save the day.

Smart Palms are literally shady free Wi-Fi hotspots that keep your cool. The six-metre tall artificial trees are solar-powered and can also charge mobile phones.

There are Smart Palms in 30 locations around Dubai, including Umm Suqeim 2 Beach and Zabeel Park. Now we’ve spotted this scarlet source of power and connection at Dubai International Financial Centre. Looks like it’s outside Caffe Nero, which is in building two of Gate Village.

Places with WiFi and good coffee where freelancers can work

In 2015 the first Smart Palms branched out in Dubai, with the first one opening at gate six of Zabeel Park. Each Smart Palm supplies high-speed Wi-Fi up to a range of 53 metres, supporting about 50 users at a time.

No need to hang about waiting for that green light – the Smart Palam’s charging points boasts charging speeds at two-and-a-half times faster than a regular plug.
