Taking the pedestrian walkway from Dubai Mall Metro to The Dubai Mall pretty accounts for most of our weekly step count.
Soon another lengthy pedestrian bridge will link to the world’s biggest mall. Developer Emaar has announced “significant progress” in building five new retail link bridges to the huge shopping destination.
Scheduled to open in February, they’ll connect to the Zabeel side of the mall over Financial Centre Road. As well as bringing more visitors into the mall, which opened in November 2008, they’ll also provide access to the mall’s soon-to-be-revealed Zabeel extension.
In total, the bridges span more than 1.78 kilometres and cover 15,000 square metres. The longest is over 765 metres (yay, step count), while the others vary in length from 120m to 582m.
You might not have noticed work happening on the bridges, which were constructed and pre-assembled in Al Quoz. They’re being lifted into position using heavy-duty cranes and fortified with asphalt in the early hours of the morning, to minimise disturbance to drivers on the roads underneath.
The new pedestrian walkway joins link bridges from the Dubai Metro station and the Address Boulevard hotel.
All this walking is definitely going to make us hungry, so here are eight new places to eat at The Dubai Mall, to keep you sated while spending.
