Great news for anyone living or working in the south of Dubai – trains will soon be running between DMCC and Ibn Battuta Metro stations.
From Friday, 19th April, Dubai Metro’s Red line will travel from the stations formerly known Jumeirah Lakes Towers to UAE Exchange. (In case you were sleeping, JLT Metro Station was officially renamed Dubai Multi Commodities Centre station in August 2018.)
The stretch of track closed in January 2018 during construction on the Route 2020 link.
Until the stations are back in action, passengers are able to hop on to a free shuttle bus provided by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority to travel from DMCC and Ibn Battuta. This does mean leaving an extra 20 minutes for their journey.
However, Nakheel Harbour and Tower station and the attached car park are still closed.
Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, director of Rail Operations at Roads and Transport’s (RTA) Rail Agency, says: “The RTA always endeavours to expand and upgrade Dubai public transport network, including the Metro, which has become the ideal daily mobility option for numerous residents, tourists and visitors to the emirate from all over the world.”
