Good news for anyone who needs a ready stock of tealights and has a thing for flatpack furniture – Dubai’s second Ikea is coming!
The Swedish home-styling gurus are promising us the new store in Dubai South will be bigger and equipped with a host of funky features to making shopping there a joy.
Set to open in December 2019, the 35,000 square metre retail experience will claim the crown as the biggest in the UAE.
It’s Ikea’s second store in Dubai and third in the country (shout out to Yas Mall Ikea in Abu Dhabi).
Those clever Scandis have already won our home decor hearts with artfully casual room mock-ups and a superior pick and mix selection.
The new store at Festival Plaza mall will also have clever gizmos like home planning wall projectors, so we can easily visualise products in our homes, without the empty pizza boxes and droopy house plants. There’s also going to be a self-service kiosk and self-ordering terminal in the restaurant – just keep the meatballs coming.
As we’d expect from the forward-thinking home furnishing specialists, the new Ikea store is already committed to going green – it will receive 20 per cent of its power from solar energy. Worldwide, Ikea also recycles 90 per cent of its dry operational waste annually and aims to use only renewable or recycled materials for its products by 2030.
First announced in April 2018, Festival Plaza mall, will also have another branch of popular homeware chain ACE, to meet DIY demands from Dubai South shoppers, 100 retail outlets, a food court and hypermarket.
