Spas in Dubai set a gold standard, so what’s a new opening got to do to shine?
First, if size impresses, Heavenly Spa at Al Habtoor City is one of the biggest in the city, with 20 treatment rooms spread out from a Scandinavian-style central relaxation area with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
Wrapped up in the comfiest hooded robe (FYI all other spas – add hoods to your robes immediately), we take up just one of these rooms for our Drizzle Deep Massage. Neutral tones and soft sounds of birdsong set the scene for a truly relaxing experience where the therapist drizzles and massages pure shea, cocoa and mango butters into our skin. We can choose from Plum Chiffon or Marshmallow Nourishing and obviously side with the calorie-free candy.
During the 50-minute massage our therapist focuses on our problem areas (shoulders scrunched by laptop over-use and gym-ravaged calves) as electric candles flicker softly. The adjustable bed means we’re deftly put into the right place with the least amount of wriggling. Our sore muscles still put up a fight at first, but the warm oils soon have knots unravelling and tension noisily dissipating under just the right amount of pressure.
In the relaxation area we’re treated to a herbal tea and invited to help ourselves to ‘superfoods’ (nuts and dried fruit). Self-improving literature is carefully scattered about minimalist wood furniture and we’re encouraged to snuggle under soft earth-toned blankets on heated recliners. It’s like stepping into an Instagram shoot, and a couple of them are going on while we’re there.
We’re told that we’re welcome to stay there until the spa closes and although more than a few hours seems optimistic, here’s where the Heavenly Spa really is a cut above. Book a one of the 20 treatments on offer here and you’ll also get access to the spa’s two rooftop swimming pool and thoroughly modern gym. Parents get an extra shot of relaxation – the kids club will entertain children aged four to 12.
Drizzle Deep Massage is AED 435 for 50 minutes. The Heavenly Spa is open from 9am-9pm. The WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio: 6-10pm, pool: 7am-9pm. To promote the opening of its indulgent new Heavenly spa, the Westin in Al Habtoor City is offering a 50 per cent off 20 treatments every Wednesday. The Westin, Al Habtoor City. 04 437 3300.
